Uus amigurumi mustrite raamat seeriast Zoomigurumi on jälle ilmunud.

Bo is a sweet little baby panda. He is always the last to reach the top of the tallest trees or to arrive at the bamboo forest where the yummy food grows. But one day he will grow up to be as big and strong as his brothers, and then he’ll surely be the one on top.

The panda was born already a year ago. One weekend I just felt like making a panda and it turned out really cute. Until now I had shared the picture of the panda only on Instragram and I was really surprised how popular it became. It has been my most liked photo in Instragram since. Therefore I agreed instatnly to make a pattern for it when Amigurumi Patterns.net contacted me and offered to participate in the next Zoomigurumi project.

Bo on väike armas panda.

See panda sündis tegelikult juba aasta tagasi.

Meet all the other 14 characters as well that you can find in addition to Bo the Panda in the Zoomigurumi 6 book. They are all adorable and I am sure you want to crochet them all.

Anita the cow by Airali Design, Carlos the Hummingbird by YOUnique Crafts, Manu & Brigitte the Duchshunds by Little Aqua Girl, Mortimer the Mammoth by Patchwork Moose, Oswald the Owl by Moji-Moji design, Txerri the Piglet by Critterbeans, Bernard the Bear by Elfin Thread, Shawn the Shark by Theresa’s Crochet Shop, Rudy the Red Panda by Little Muggles, Woo Ri the Lion by AnJiyoun, Cedric the Sloth by Irene Strange, Alvin the Hedgehog by Pepika, Kimi the Cat by Woolytoons, Anna the Swan and her baby Peter by Pica Pau.

New pattern - Bubbly the Baby Seal

After a snowless December we were able to enjoy a truly beautiful winter in January. My children were ecstatic - my older daughter was able to try skiing for the first time and it was really difficult to get the kids to come inside. Although shoveling the snow twice a day was really annoying, I hate the rainy days that February has brought to us. The snowy weather finally inspired me to publish a new pattern - Bubbly the Baby Seal. I first came up with the amigurumi baby harp seal about a year ago when my nephew needed a gift for his best friend. I was asked to make a pattern for an amigurumi publication already months ago (hopefully I will be able to show it to you soon) but finally I finished a pattern version in English for sale as well. You can find Bubbly the Baby Seal pattern in my pattern stores on Etsy, Ravelry and Craftsy.

The baby seal is about 27 cm long (10.6 inches), crocheted with worsted weight yarn and 3.5 mm crochet hook. But you can adjust the yarn weight, hook size and eyes to your own preference. The pattern is for advanced beginner level and written in US crocheting terms. The pdf file includes clear and detailed step-by-step instructions, useful tips and tricks and lots of pictures of the whole process. I hope you enjoy it and do not forget to share pictures with me on Facebook or Instagram (tag me @smartapplecreations).

***

Maya the Bee

I wish you a successful and creative year! I know that most of January is already over and I am hopelessly late with my wishes but better late than never. Right? I hope that I find this year a little more time to crochet, to write in my blog and also to publish some new amigurumi patterns (one pattern will be available very soon in my pattern stores. Keep your eyes open!). Today I will show you a project that kept me busy last week.

***

Maya the Bee is a character of a German book written by Waldemar Bonsels. Maya's adventures were animated in the 70s and newly produced into a TV-series in 2012. The cute bee and her friends are quite popular among Estonian kids, too. My version of amigurumi Maya the Bee is based on the character created by Studio 100 Animation. I made it as a custom order for a baby girl who loves Maya. I was asked to make a little version of the toy so the tiny hands could easily grab it.

***

Mesilane Maia on saksa kirjaniku Waldemar Bonselsi loodud raamatutegelane.

I searched the internet for a crochet pattern for amigurumi Maya the Bee. I thought that maybe I can take the easy way out this time but could not find a perfect one. I had to come up with the pattern myself again (not that I am complaining...). Inspiration how to make Maya's hair came from the blog of amigurumiBB who has a great Maya and Willy (Maya's best friend) pattern available for free. Crocheting and attaching the hair was a fiddly job indeed but the result is definately worth it. I used 100% mercerized cotton yarn and a 2.25 mm crochet hook. The little Maya is 18 cm tall. I placed also a little rattle inside Maya's head to attract the baby's attention.

***

Otsisin internetist juba valmis amigurumi juhendit Maia heegeldamiseks. Väike Maia on 18 cm pikkune.

Thank you for visiting and have a good day!
Aitäh, et külastasid ja head päeva jätku!

Tsirkusepõrsas Hubert ja orangutanibeebi Bella võtavad osa kõige armsama ja vahvama tsirkuseartisti valimistest tänavusel amigurumi disainide konkursil, mida korraldab amigurumipatterns.net. See on juba kolmas selline võistlus ja sellel aastal on teemaks tsirkus. Minul on teine kord sellisest võistlusest osa võtta. Erinevaid vahvaid võistlustöid on kokku 235. Hääletamine lõpeb 9. detsembril 2015.a. Selleks on vaja teha siis järgmist:
1. Mine hääletamise lehele (inglisekeelne) SIIN.
2. Vali 5 oma lemmiktegelast klikkides punasel südamel pildi nurgas

I would now like to introduce you Bella the Baby Orangutan and Hubert the Pig.

Bella was born in circus. Although she is just a baby orangutan, she has already found her passion in dancing. She is very flexible and graceful and enjoys performing in her pretty tutu and little pink hat. I started to make the amigurumi orangutan baby already last fall. Somehow I could not find inspiration to finish it and her head was sitting in my unfinished-projects-box all this time. When the contest was announced I new right away what to do with the monkey. I used 100% cotton yarn (Drops Muskat) for the amigurumi monkey and a shiny cotton and polyester blend for the skirt, hat and umbrella.

***

Bella on sündinud tsirkuses.

Although Hubert is only a little pig he is a master of balancing acts on a ball. He wants to be the best and practices all the time. His act is a big hit every night and that makes him smile. The amigurumi pig was on my mind also already before the contest. I adjusted my idea a little by making him pants and a hat and a whimsical circus character was born. Crocheting the ball was quite a challenging task. I did not want to make the usual horizontal stripes but wanted to try something different. It took quite a lot of experimenting and frogging before I got all the colour changes just right. I think it looks really great. The amigurumi pig is crocheted with 100% cotton (Drops Muskat).

***

Amigurumi siga on samuti heegeldatud 100%-lisest puuvillasest lõngast (Drops Muskat).

Fingers crossed that my characters will be successful in this contest and thank you for supporting me with your vote!

Cuddly teddy bears

September is almost over and I accidentally missed my little crochet blog's two-year anniversary. I started the blog with very ambitious plans to post much more often than I manage these days. Nevertheless I am happy that I still have the desire to keep the blog alive and share my adventures in the world of amigurumi. I am pleased that I have published five free patterns on the blog and seven amigurumi patterns can be purchased from my online stores. My most popular free pattern is Fred the Frog and the best selling pattern is Bibi the Ballerina Bear. 98 720 people from 162 countries have found their way to my blog since I started. Thank you all for visiting and I hope to give you enough reasons to come back in the future as well.

Today I will share with you projects that I finished already in August. My older daughter turned seven this year and she is a little lady in some sense but she still loves to take plushies into bed with her at night. She had asked me already a long time ago to crochet her a really huggable big teddy bear. I promised to make her one as soon as I finish my other urgent projects and find the right yarn for it. A week before her birthday she went to summer camp. It must have been a lucky coincidence because I made a trip to a yarn store to get something else but came back with brown fuzzy yarn that was perfect for a soft teddy bear. As she was away from home the whole week I had just enough time to crochet her the teddy as a surprise for her birthday.

***

I was so in love with the teddy bear myself so I fought the desire to keep it to myself. It turned out so cuddly and soft and I was sure it will be love at first sight for my daughter as well. You can imagine that I was a little dissapointed when I did not get the first reaction from my daughter that I was expecting. But as it turned out she was just sleepy in the morning and her first reaction was not conclusive. My heart melted when she whispered me before bedtime that the teddy bear is the most important toy for her now and it is worth more for her than all the other toys I have made her before. Now she sleeps with the bear every night. She was so unhappy and even cried when she forgot the bear to her grandma's one time.

***

Nüüd läheb see karu kaissu igal õhtul.

The big teddy bear is about 45 cm (17.7 inches) tall. The yarn is 60% mercerized cotton and 40% microfiber polyamid, the beige yarn is 100% cotton. Usually it is a pain to crochet with a fuzzy yarn but I was surprised how easy this one was to work with. After trying it out I went back to the store the next day and bought a big pile of this yarn. It is a pity that there were only three colours available. I had a set of teddy bear joints at home that I wanted to try out and the big teddy bear has moving arms and legs. It was my first time to use plastic teddy bear nose instead of emroidered nose. A week later my daughter went to her friend's birthday and I made a smaller fuzzy teddy bear for her friend as well. The smaller teddy is about 30 cm (11.8 inches). I see more fuzzy teddy bears in my future, this will not be my last one.

***

Suur kaisukaru on umbes 45 cm pikk.

Crochet eyeglasses holder

Last weekend was my father's 65th birthday and what would an amigurumi lover give for his father? Something amigurumi of course! We have agreed with my family that we will not make any expensive gifts for each other. Nevertheless, self-made gifts are always welcome. When I found from the internet the idea to crochet a head with nose and ears as a holder for eyeglasses I thought it was really clever and fun. Most of my family members wear glasses and I have planned for a while now to make a gift for one of them. My father's birthday this year was the perfect time to finally try it out. When I gave the head to my father I explained to him that it serves three purposes. Firstly, it holds my father's glasses so he could always find them. Secondly, when my father needs to consult with someone smarter than himself he can talk to the head because two heads are always better than one. And thirdly, when my father is not at home and my mother wants to talk to somebody then the old man's head is almost as talkative as my father. :-)

***

No muidugi mingi heegeldatud tegelase! Me oleme perekonnas kokku leppinud, et enam me kalleid kingitusi üksteisele ei osta. :-)

I had the idea from the beginning that it has to be a cheerful old man with grey hair. I had some silky and soft eyelash yarn left from my fuzzy kitten project that was perfect for the old man's hair. At first I was planning to make him a full head of hair but when I started to attach the hair he looked cuter partly bold. It was a quick and easy project and I needed only basic crocheting and amigurumi skills to make it. I used about 150 m (164 yards) of 100% cotton yarn (DROPS Paris, worsted weight) and a 4 mm crochet hook.

***
